Fashion week is moving?!
IMG has announced that fashion week is scaling back and moving to the Lincoln Center. In the article seen here, WWD takes a look back at the history of fashion week in NYC. All in all they seem to have very little to say about the whole tent situation, which I find rather shocking. I personally am really disappointed that they are moving it to the Lincoln Center; it's just not that same.
As a future designer with huge dreams of one day having a collection shown at fashion week, Bryant Park was really part of the glory of it all. One can only hope that this is just the fashion world scaling back during these times of recession and that by the time I'm anywhere near ready to have my clothes shown in fashion week, we'll be back to the way it once was- trashy, paparazzi infested tents and all!
Here is a bit of history regarding the tents at Bryant Park:
The tents were warmly welcomed because they got everyone out of the cramped showrooms, however the clothes weren't up to par.
As time went on, corporate sponsors began to sponsor the shows and then followed the free food and gifts.
Bring on the celebrities... and the paparazzi.
At any rate, other locations haven't exactly gone over well in the past, so I'm just crossing my fingers the Lincoln Center will be thrown out and the tents will return.
